The most common side effects include gastrointestinal related symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects may be more common during initiation and dose escalation.
Extreme sensitivity reactions are rare but can occur and should be reported immediately to your provider. In case of emergency, call 911.
How do you administer this medication?
This medication is given via subcutaneous injection. We will provide the medication and injection supplies you will need for each dose of medication. Doses are given weekly into any area on your body that has enough fat to pinch. The most common area to inject is into your abdomen, at least one inch away from your naval. Rotate injection sites each week.
How should I store my medication?
GLP-1 medications should be stored in the fridge in a container that keeps them separate from food. We will provide a bag for you to store them in.
What will my dosage be?
If you are taking a GLP-1 for the first time, you will be instructed to begin with a titration as directed by your provider. This means that you will start with a small dose and gradually increase. Titrating this medication helps to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Titration schedule and dosage is determined by the individual’s response to the medication. Every 5th week you will have an in person appointment to determine the dosage of the next 4 weeks of injections.
